The L.A. Dragons is a soccer organization based in the Greater Lansing area, serving boys and girls in age categories U19 and below. Our year-round program offers competitive soccer for those just learning the game at six years of age through Varsity home school student-athletes competing for state and national championships.
In addition to hosting the Michigan State Cup Homeschool Soccer Championship for boys in the fall and the Midwest Region Homeschool Soccer Championship for girls in the spring, we participate in the National Homeschool Soccer Championships.
Our organizational focus is on the development of soccer players in a value-based environment, assisting players in reaching their full potential as athletes. We consider character and moral development the most important thing we do.
We've had some questions about the differences between Lizards and Dragons and cost differences, so we want to address a couple of those right here.
The Lizards are result of the association of a younger recreational soccer club (CHAP Chariots) with the older competitive soccer club (LA Dragons). It's our goal to provide a continuum of age-appropriate and enjoyable soccer for kids of all ages. We want the kids to have fun and learn the essentials. That's why we start the 6 and 7 year olds with 4 v. 4 teams with no goals just playing with each other. As players progress, we add goalies, referees, more rules, more competition, more discipline, more commitment on the part of players and parents until our varsity team competes at a national level and has even brought home several national championship trophies. Every year the LA Dragons host the state Homeschool Championships where teams from Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Traverse City and SE Michigan come to compete.
Practices - Note NEW times for the Lizards.
At the Varsity Level, the players train Monday through Friday starting at 4:30. For Lizards Tuesday and Thursdays beginning at 5pm. Earlier we said 5:30 but we have moved it to 5pm. All practices end at 6:30 except Wednesday’s at 5:30.
On August 18 and 20, we would like to extend the invitation and encouragement to all Lizard players to join the Dragons for a joint practice. These practices are at 4:30 PM. Regular practices for the Lizards will resume after Labor Day.
Why does it cost more than CHAP did?
At the 6-7 year old level, it should be about the same. One difference is that you are paying for both seasons (Fall and Spring). The Dragons and Lizards are a year-round soccer club. We also hire referees at the U9 level and above. This increases costs but adds the element of objectivity and playing by the rules to the game. At the upper levels, the Dragons have tournament costs as well.
This is our first year combining the two programs, so we thank you for your grace as we iron out some of the wrinkles.
Joshua 1:7 "Be strong and very courageous, to observe, to do, according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not deviate from it, to the right or to the left, that you may act wisely wherever you go."
We try to have schedule changes posted as soon as they occur. In some cases, especially weather related, it is important to check the schedule within two hours of an event. Our goal is to have any unforeseeable changes made no later than two hours before an event. Also, check the link for a particular event to determine if there are specific instructions attached to that event.
Our home games will be played at Capitol City Baptist Church & School, located at 5100 W Willoughby Rd, Holt, MI 48842.
